So now that the entire summer is gone...

We finally got something done on the Mustang. We replaced the hardware on both front brakes, and now are just waiting for parts to fix the rear brakes. Greg is home now so it's gonna be a lot easier having an extra man on the job. Sorry for the short update, but that's all we've really done so far! Next update will hopefully be pretty soon!

No time = no work on the car = no posts.

Happy New Year everyone.  Not like anyone actually checks this site for updates, but I just haven't had any time between school and work to work on the car at all.  I did get a weatherproof breathable cover for it for Christmas though, so it doesn't leak anymore.

Next update won't be until probably after May once school is out for the summer.

"Before" Pictures, as promised

The following pictures are of the Mustang, before any restorations. Everything you see in these pictures is original, with the exception of the AM/FM radio (the original is only AM). All upholstery is original, everything under the hood is original, with the exception of the new battery. First, pictures of the exterior, then under the hood, and the interior. You can see all the rust damage to the outside, as well as the damage to the deck lid and the rear passenger side fender. Also notice the odometer, which reads 33,291. This is going to be a lot of work...

First post

My grandfather just gave me a 1972 Ford Mustang Coupe.  It's a straight 6 cylinder, for those of you who are curious, and it's a red-orange color.  Everything on the car is original.  The car presently has only 33,000 original miles.  It has been sitting outside with no cover for about five years, so there is a lot of work to be done on it.  My dad and I went to go pick it up yesterday and after an unsuccessful attempt to jump the car, we bought a new battery and hooked it up.  We poured a little bit of gas in the carburetor along with some starting fluid, and after about two or three minutes of turning it over, it finally started!  We rented a U-Haul trailer and towed it back home, where it is now.  Unfortunately, we don't have garage space for it, so it's on our back patio with a cover on it.

I thought I'd start a blog to keep track of the progress, as well as to post pictures throughout the duration of the project.  I'll try to put up some "before" pictures this week.  Here is a brief list of stuff that needs to be done to the car... I'm sure there is much more, but here's what I can think of so far:
  • Brakes:  obviously most important.  The master cylinder and all the brake lines need to be replaced.
  • Exhaust:  sounds like there could be an exhaust leak, so I'll investigate and update in a future entry.
  • Rear passenger fender:  was smashed pulling out of a driveway some time ago, so that will need replacing.
  • Deck lid:  I have a new deck lid, the old one was smashed somehow.  I just need to install it and get it painted.
  • Bulbs:  From a brief inspection, one front parking light out, one tail light half out (one of the two bulbs is out), and one reverse light out.
  • Interior:  Just really needs to be cleaned.  Seats reupholstered, maybe new floorboards, carpeting.
  • Exterior:  Bumpers need to be re-chromed, quite a few spots are rusted out and need to be sanded down, puttied, all that stuff.
Stay tuned to this blog for updates and pictures.  Any questions, comments, suggestions, please e-mail me.
